“Deaf Helen”

Michelle Boudreau adopted her dog Deaf Helen from a local shelter 4 years ago.

Helen was running the streets of Bridgeton, NJ before she found herself at the local SPCA. With no prospects for a forever home most likely due to her breed, a pit bull, her disability, deafness and her inner city origins. Helen was misjudged and misunderstood, a victim of assumptions and stereotypes.

The kids of today are the companion animal guardians of tomorrow. Michelle demonstrates how she communicates with Helen using hand signals and discusses the problems of pet overpopulation.

Together they share the message of kindness, responsibility, and respect for animals and people alike.
